'The Blaze' went on display to mark OnSight 2018 at the National Museum of Ireland, Turlough Park, Castlebar, Co. Mayo.
The art piece was an exploration of the theme 'Suffragette'. It consisted of the installation of a golden tent and two figurative pieces embodying the female spirit. Inside the tent, the walls were covered with the words, quotes and the names of Suffragettes. Each word or sentence was stitched, drawn and painted onto a rectangular ‘patch’ of fabric. The ‘patches’ were made by members of the public.
OnSight is an annual art project that takes place in the National Museum of Ireland at Turlough Park. The purpose of the project is to have artists create work in a site-specific location and to encourage visitors to explore the themes of the Museum through these artworks.
It is a partnership project of the National Museum of Ireland, Mayo County Council, Mayo Arts Squad and independent artists.
