Drop into the Discovery Zone in the Dead Zoo Lab at Collins Barracks this summer and join a fun hands-on event. Bring the family along to join our big draw and then explore some beach wildlife from the handling collection.

No booking required but there may be a short waiting time. Suitable for Families. Wheelchair accessible. Children must be fully supervised by a parent or adult who is in loco parentis.

During this drop-in event you can...

• Learn about the wildlife found in Irish beaches using items and specimens from the handling collection. 

• Touch and inspect up close the handling collections of real and replica shells, egg cases, fossils and wet specimens. 

• Add your own sea creature to our rockpool in the big draw as we make a piece of collaborative art.

• Have a chat with a Museum Educator and don't forget to ask them your curious questions. 

• Choose your favourite animal on display in a short self-guided creative activity sheet. 

What is a drop-in event at the Dead Zoo Lab?
Drop-in events are located in the Discovery Zone in the open gallery of the Dead Zoo Lab. Each drop-in takes place over two hours and features a short activity that last 5-10 mins with a Museum Educator. Each activity is inspired by the natural history collections in the Museum. The short activity usually involves seeing and touching real and replica handling objects such as furs, bones or fossils. At the end of the activity you can pick up a self-guided activity sheet and pencil to choose and draw your favourite animal on display in the Dead Zoo Lab.
