Join author Cecily Gilligan for a fascinating look at Ireland’s traditional folk cures. For nearly forty years, Cecily has collected stories from healers around the country discovering remedies for ailments like mumps, styes, eczema and sprains. This engaging talk explores a unique part of Ireland’s heritage and the survival of these practices into the modern day.
Cecily Gilligan lives in the County Sligo countryside. She is a Primary school teacher, and has a degree in Social Science and a Masters in Women’s Studies from University College Cork. She has been interested in folklore since childhood, when much of her knowledge was acquired from within her community, and in particular from her grandmother.
