Sudocrem

An all-healing cream developed on our doorstep. Each time I apply it to a wound, the distinct, soft and soothing smell transports me to an Ireland of long ago.

“Your Nana swore by it,” my mam would say, as she tended to another cut on my knee - I was such a clumsy child.  This generic cream, a staple in every Irish household, helps me feel at one with places I’ve never been, people I never got the chance to meet.

I think of her fondly, my Nana Phil. And every time I open that little grey tub of healing, I like to think that she’s looking down, smirking to herself that we still use her old reliable remedy - that soothing cream. Sudocrem.
