This summer, step back in time and explore the many layers of Ireland’s history, heritage, and culture with a free guided tour at any of our three museum locations in Dublin and Mayo.
Our experienced guides will lead you through Ireland’s past—from the fierce world of the Vikings to the heart of Prehistoric Ireland. Discover the resourcefulness and resilience of rural communities in the Irish Folklife Collections, or see how everyday objects reveal the political, cultural, and social story of Ireland from 1900 to 2020.
All tours are free and no booking is required.
We are also introducing new slow tours at Collins Barracks and Kildare Street which will take a handful of artefacts on display from the Museum’s collection and take the time to pause, look closely and reflect on the artefacts. It is a gentle-paced and conversational tour that invites visitors to slow down from the hustle and bustle of life to enjoy the Museum in a mindful and relaxed way.

Visitors can also join the free Éire to EU: European Connections through the Museum's Collections tour at Collins Barracks. Through fascinating objects, stories and discussion, this tour explores Ireland’s social, political, cultural and design history, highlighting how Ireland has contributed to and been shaped by Europe through craft, design and innovation. Reflect on themes of identity, democracy, citizenship and cultural exchange, and discover Ireland’s connections with the wider world.
